Sayonara – Summertime Sadness

By Ganteng Boy

White Sands, New Mexico (current temperature 98F)

In the desert

I saw a creature, naked, bestial

Who, squatting upon the ground

Held his heart in his hands,

And ate of it.

I said, “is it good, friend?”

“It is bitter – bitter,” he answered;

“But I like it

Because it is bitter,

And because it is my heart.”

– Stephen Crane

Sometime this week, last year, I parted ways with someone who I once thought I loved. Sadly I was betrayed. All that was left was bitterness and disappointment.

It was at that desert, in New Mexico, that I decided to give it one more push and relinquish the bitterness that remained in my heart.

This past weekend, I witnessed a person who I love as a sister, exchange vows with the love of her life. It was a beautiful ceremony. I am blessed to be a part of their history.

Sayonara sadness. Hello hope.
