Biking and Green Smoothies

As I strap on my helmet, put on my shades, and pump a bit more air into my tires, I can’t help but marvel at the beauty of Spring time weather in Houston. For the most part of the year, Houston has two primary weathers – hot and muggy and not so hot, but still muggy.

Terry Hershey Park is by far one of the largest parks in the Greater Houston area. It stretches about 15+ miles from end to end. For this route, I started from my house in Katy and turned around, where Terry Hershey Park meets Beltway 8.

This ride is not for the faint of heart. It’s chalk full with Black-Eyed Susans, Bluebonnets and tiny Morning Glorys. Fortunately for me, I am not allergic to pollen or grass. But on the off chance that either or all of those hit your allergy buttons, it might be a good idea to get a good dose of Benadryl.

A great way to refuel from the ride is to imbibe on a delicious veggie shake. For today’s veggie shake, I used an assortment of: spinach, grapefruit, grapes, Greek yogurt, mint and honey.

I highly recommend using a Vita Mix. The consistency and smoothness from a Vita Mix is bar none, when you compare it to other blenders in the market. Load up the Vita Mix with all the ingredients shown above, and add about 3-4 cups of water. This will produce about 5-6 servings of delicious veggie smoothie (see below).
